Game jam, Foodfighters Lunchtime

Last friday there was a game jam at school. A game jam is basically “make a game during this super short amount of time”, and this time it was like under seven hours. Students of first ’til third year and teachers could participate. Also we had to use Game Maker at this jam.

We were three first year student programmers (and we havn’t even had a single lecture in programming as of yet) and two graphical artists, one first year and one second year student.

Even though we programmers were first year students, we have learned some programming on the side and also checked out Game Maker a bit. That made us able to make a game, and not just any game, “Lunchtime”! The main feature was dodging food thrown by students. Our team name was “Foodfighters”. I mainly did core mechanics, and all of us together did the overall game design.

We made a playable version after about 2-3 hours and then we tried to put as much stuff in the game as we possible could for the rest of the session. I’m actually really proud of our game and I think that our team was awesome!

There were three awards that evening; most fun, best interpretation and best execution. We won “Most fun”! Yay!
